The Perfect Prescription: New Orleans Pharmacy Museum Weddings

If history, originality, and aesthetics resonate with you, and you’re looking for one of the most unique New Orleans wedding venues, then you need to explore the Pharmacy Museum. Yes, it’s a museum dedicated to the wild, wonderful, and sometimes deadly pharmaceutical industry, but it’s one of the best places in the city for an intimate wedding just soaked in heritage and history.

Here’s what you need to know about New Orleans Pharmacy Museum weddings, an old world venue in the heart of the French Quarter.

One Of The Most Unique Places To Get Married In New Orleans

The apothecary of America’s first licensed pharmacist may seem like an unusual place for a wedding — but for many couples, that’s part of the appeal. Housed in a gorgeous Creole townhouse, it’s now a museum open to the public, home to antique medicine bottles, slightly macabre vintage medical instruments, and period furnishings.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it’s such a treasure trove of memorabilia, history, and plenty of intrigue (think voodoo potions) and whenever I walk in, I feel like stepping back in time.

The Pharmacy Museum wedding venue is predominately the building’s delightful courtyard, with space for weddings of up to 150, cocktail-style, or 70 for a seated dinner.

Why You Should Consider New Orleans Pharmacy Museum Wedding Venue

The Pharmacy Museum is such a unique venue, ideal for couples who appreciate history and want their wedding to be part of something greater, connecting their love story to the story of the city’s history. If you’re into vintage aesthetics and crave something outside of the ordinary, you and your guests might love the eccentric ambience here!

If you’re thinking about the Pharmacy Museum for a New Orleans wedding, a visit is the best way to experience the eclectic details that make this place so special — the tall shelves packed with vintage apothecary bottles, the heritage cobblestone floors, and a lush green courtyard with a bubbling fountain — it’s such an intimate and charming setting. I love that the Pharmacy Museum really feels personal, romantic, and filled with character, such a great alternative to larger venues.

You and your guests will also have access to all of the indoor museum exhibits too, with flexibility to cater the space to your vision and a natural flow between the indoor and outdoor areas.

You’ll absolutely love your photography here! As a New Orleans Pharmacy Museum wedding photographer, I know the venue well and will come up with great perspectives to get really unique shots, utilizing the apothecary room, the thriving greenery of the cute courtyard, and the exterior period shop front windows.

The wrought-iron balcony, which overlooks the courtyard space, gets incredible golden light throughout the day, so I’ll ensure we make the most of it! The vintage style of the venue also ties in beautifully with wedding film photography, so we can also incorporate some of that into your day.

Since the venue is so centrally located, we’ll also go for a short stroll nearby, as there are plenty of fun places to snap some couples’ photos. Nestled in the heart of the French Quarter, the venue is absolutely perfect for a second line. Many couples choose to have a second line around the quarter while the venue flips the courtyard from ceremony to reception. Upon returning you can jump easily into cocktails in the museum space. Bonus: Your guests will also love the easy access to a number of cool hotels.

If you’re ready to start planning your Pharmacy Museum wedding and have questions about how it will work for your photography, I’d love to connect. Get in touch — I can’t wait to hear about your New Orleans wedding plans!
